Economic Development Financial Services Specialist Part-Time

Department: Economic Development
Location: Liberal, KS

Job Summary:
The Financial Services Specialist is responsible for providing tailored financial support services to entrepreneurs and small businesses. This role focuses on helping entrepreneurs develop strong financial processes for their businesses while working with existing businesses to identify and eliminate spending inefficiencies to improve profitability and cash flow. The position supports the overall economic health of local businesses by delivering hands-on financial guidance and expertise.

Required Qualifications:

- Experience:

Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in financial services, business consulting, or similar roles, preferably in an economic development or small business environment.

- Skills & Competencies:

- Strong financial analysis and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and presentation abilities
- Ability to coach and mentor entrepreneurs and small business owners
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal funding programs and financial
resources
- Project management experience and the ability to work collaboratively
with diverse stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications:

- Experience working with small businesses in rural or underserved communities
- Bilingual in English and Spanish (Preferred but not required)

Key Responsibilities:

- Business Financial Planning: Assist entrepreneurs in developing economic
processes, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial strategies, to ensure
business sustainability and growth.
- Cash Flow Management: Analyze financial data for businesses to identify
spending leaks, inefficiencies, and opportunities to enhance profitability and
maintain a healthy cash flow.
- Financial Literacy & Education: Provide one-on-one coaching and training
sessions for business owners on financial management principles, such as
managing debt, building reserves, and creating financial stability.
- Funding Assistance: Guide businesses in identifying and securing funding
options, including loans, grants, and other financial resources, to support their
startup costs, expansions, or operational improvements.

Work Environment:

This position primarily works in an office environment but may require occasional travel to meet with local businesses, attend community events, and represent the Economic Development Office at external meetings.

Schedule:

This is a part-time position, with flexible hours that may include evenings and weekends as needed to support project timelines and deadlines.
