Road & Bridge Director

Department: Road & Bridge
Location: Liberal, KS

Job Summary:

Seward County is dedicated to maintaining and improving our infrastructure to ensure safe and efficient travel for our residents. We are seeking a dynamic and experienced County Road & Bridge Director to lead our efforts in managing the planning, construction, and maintenance of our county’s road and bridge systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the planning, development, and maintenance of county roads and bridges.
  • Develop and manage the annual budget for the road and bridge department.
  • Coordinate with other county departments, state agencies, and local municipalities on infrastructure projects.
  • Supervise a team of engineers, technicians, and laborers; foster a culture of safety and teamwork.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations regarding road and bridge construction and maintenance.
  • Conduct regular assessments of infrastructure conditions and prioritize repair and improvement projects.
  • Prepare reports and presentations for the County Board and other stakeholders.
  • Engage with the community to address concerns and gather feedback on infrastructure needs.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in road and bridge management or public works administration
  • Knowledge of operating and maintaining equipment
  • Strong knowledge of engineering principles, practices, and standards related to road and bridge construction.
  • Proven leadership and project management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Proficient in using relevant software and technology for project management and planning.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain a CDL if necessary.
